Below I have listed the goals for the week in each subject. it is expected that the students complete each item before the week is done unless otherwise stated. Any work that was not completed prior to Spring Break is still do (if possible). I will contact you individually to make those arrangements. I will be having Zoom face to face chats available during my office hours for students to get extra assistance or further instruction if needed. To book a time, please click on the link below. ZOOM OFFICE HOURS (10am-2pm this week....to book a video conference please click on the following link: calendly.com/mrbarker ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SCIENCES 8 - This week we're going to continue on with the cell and the unit on Biology in science. 1) I'd like the students to continue on with their 3D cell models that they received the criteria for just before Spring Break. If you don't have it on you, I'll post the link to the worksheet that went with it and the rubric that shows you how I'll be marking it. This will be due Friday and I'd like you to submit it by sharing 2) Review of Chp 1 - pp. 39, 49, 50-51 (not for marks, but for comprehension) Textbook link for the chapter: http://mr-barker.weebly.com/uniteacute-1---la-vie.html 3) Rather than write a chapter test for the cell, I'd like the kids to use a phone or other device and film 3-5 minute video of themselves talking about what they know and understand about the following: characteristics of living organisms, microscopes, the differences between animal cells and plant cells, bacteria and viruses and osmosis and diffusion.. (The video must be done in French obviously and should be submitted by Friday. The best way to send the video would be to upload it to your google drive and then send me a link to it.) SCIENCES 9 1) Go for a walk in and around either Petersen Creek (Downtown/Sahali) or Gambles Pond (Dufferin) and take a look at the different parts of their ecosystems. Have a look at the relationships between the abiotic and biotic features and the changes taking place given the onset of Spring. Create a brief 2-3 minute video in French of your trip taking about the different things that you're seeing while up there. Take the video on your trip, not once you've gotten home. Make sure to talk about the different ecological concepts that we've covered to date such as food webs, producers, consumers, nutrient cycling etc. 2) We will start a project on Ecological Tipping points that will conclude next week. For this assignment you are to read over the two pages posted below and have a look at the 3 tipping points mentioned in the descriptions. You are then to create 3 other "tipping points" that you can think of. Feel free to bounce ideas off your friends and family members. Once you have done this, you are to provide a brief description of what your new 3 are, and then you need to pick one of the 6 tipping points (of the 3 from the text or your 3) and do some deeper research on it. Please use the google doc from the link below to fill in your information and prepare for the next step which is to create an infomercial that talks about the problem and provides a possible solution to it. Once again, feel free to include family members in the video or get creative. The video must be in French! (at least your parts). This project will be due Wednesday next week (April 8th 2020) *** Ignore step 4 from the picture below :) MATH 8
- This week the students are to continue on with their probability chapter. They have the suggested questions and the outline for their probability games that they were planning before to left for Spring Break. If they want to work on the games with a partner, they can figure that out and let me know or if they want to do it solo, that's fine too. I've attached the links to both the Qs and the Game description below. The questions aren't for marks but they are for practicing the concepts. I will send out a test to do at the beginning of next week for them to complete on probability and the games are due this Friday. If there are any questions, please book a zoom session. For additional videos on probability, follow the followng link: http://mr-barker.weebly.com/probabiliteacute.html *** Today Spring Break starts, and I have not assigned any work over the break. I hope you all enjoy the down time and that you stay safe and healthy from the ongoing concern of the Coronavirus.
