Welcome back all! Hope you had a nice day off from school today while us teachers continued to learn more ways and find different resources to help educate you! Here's the plan for our short week.
MATH 8 - This week we will simply be continuing on with our Chapter on Ingeters. Rather than having a big chapter test at the end we will just have another quiz on the last section which is "PEDMAS". Try the questions in the textbook for section 8.5 as well as the Review and Practice Test in your book that correspond with this last section. Pay special attention to the word problems section (p.p. 316-317) as we will have several word problems on our quiz Friday. Once again, there are notes and videos available on the Integers section on our website. We will have a quiz on this section Friday through Google Classroom again and next week we will move on to start everyone's favourite.......Algebra! SCIENCES 8 - This week we will wrap up Chapter 4. I'm looking forward to your summary videos of section 4.1 on waves. If you haven't checked them out yet, google "Mosquito ringtones" and play them loud around your family to see who can hear the different pitches. They work similar to a dog whistle in that certain people as they age can only hear certain pitches. This week you will be learning about the way that we see colours as well as the electromagnetic spectrum. Please complete the remainder of the notes for Chapter 4 using your text or the "Notes de Prof" from the website. Also try the worksheet that was in the "Materials" section of the classroom last week on the electromagnetic spectrum and watch the Bill Nye - Waves video that will help you with the discussion questions assignment found in the "Classroom" which are due Friday. SCIENCES 9 - This week you guys are going to be exploring series and parallel circuits. There are videos to watch, notes to complete and an interactive circuit board to get comfortable with this week so that we can complete a lab next week. I will be putting up a worksheet on the classroom Thursday, but start off by just reading through the notes and getting used to the differences between these types of circuits. I hope you guys are finding things to keep you busy or that you're able to spend some extra time trying new things you've always wanted to try. I would much rather be in a classroom with you guys and seeing you face to face than doing this online, but I don't see this changing in the near future. Some of you have had a smooth transition to using Google Classroom to submit things, and some of you still haven't signed up yet. Hopefully this week we can have things go a little more seamlessly. Again, if you haven't yet signed up, the classroom codes are as follows: Sciences 8 - p46brra Sciences 9 - lruwk4m Mathématiques 8 - svkg4fg Here's the plan for the week (Classroom stuff will post Monday morning at 8:30am)!! SCIENCES 8 - This week we will be continuing with our Piktochart on COVID-19. The easiest way to share this with me is to save it as a pdf and then submit that in the "Classwork" section. Most of you found the vocab quiz easy which I was happy with. We will continue to have little quizzes like this to make sure that you're reading over your notes and reviewing the concepts. The Piktocharts will be due Wednesday this week. Normally at the end of our unit on the cell and the immune system we watch Osmosis Jones which is a great movie that covers both of these topics in a mix of cartoon/regular acting. If you need a break from your work and want to check it out, follow the link below: We will also be starting in with our unit on Waves and Light. The assignment this week is super simple. They are to go over the notes for and worksheet for section 4.1, and then send me a video clip covering the material from 4.1 in a creative way. I'll send out the criteria and rubric on Google Classroom. The video will be due Monday the following week.
SCIENCES 9 - For those of you that didn't get a chance to do the Lorax assignment to wrap up the Ecology unit, please try and have it done soon. Again, ff you don't have access to a Netflix account, please let me know and I'll assign a different assignment for you. Your static electricity quiz will now be this Tuesday through Google Classroom. I didn't feel that you had enough review time, so I moved it until Tuesday. This week's assignment is to go over the class "Notes de prof" and complete and submit the "Notes d'élèves" and "Feuilles d'activité" for the section on "Les courants électriques et circuits simples". Watch the video and try the practice activity on Google Classroom. More circuits stuff next week. MATH 8 - This week we will be continuing on with integers (Les Entiers). From the results of the quiz, many of you are quite comfortable with the concept, but others still are struggling with the "jetons" and "droite numérique". Your assignment this week is to watch the videos on our website and do the Qs from sections 8-3 and 8-4 this week which look at dividing integers. I will host an open zoom time Wednesday from 10-11am if anyone wants to say hi or get some help with this chapter. We will have another quiz Friday on these two sections (assigned through Google Classroom). If you want help before Wednesday, please reach out by Zoom or Remind. All the material is on our Math website, but here is the link to make it easier: http://mr-barker.weebly.com/les-entiers.html Join Zoom Meeting (Wed 10-11am) https://zoom.us/j/94641898478?pwd=YStBWUVCSkZhNENDeVZWdXJVMG54dz09 Meeting ID: 946 4189 8478 Password: 018727 Have a great week!
SCIENCES 8 - This week we will be continuing with the Immune System. If you didn't sign up for BrainPop last week, please do so with the link button below and complete the 2 assignments that are on there. From last week there is a video on the immune system and a quiz that goes with it and this week there is another one for our current situation of COVID-19. These are marked so please take them seriously. In regards to the vocab quiz for this chapter, it will be this Thursday and I will post a link to it Thursday morning. If you review the worksheets from last week and the vocab words on your "Feuille à Savoir" then you be prepared. I will also be putting a Piktochart assignment on COVID-19 up on our Google Classroom for Wednesday that will be due next week instead of having a chapter test.
MATH 8
- This week we will be jumping into whole numbers (Les Entiers). Exploring operations with positive and negative number including using different ways of representing calculations. Students are to tackle sections 8-1 and 8-2 this week. They can watch the videos, read over the notes and try the practice questions for each section. We will have a quiz Friday on these two sections (assigned through Google Classroom). Students should reach out by Zoom or Remind if they are struggling. All the material is on our Math website, but here is the link to make it easier: http://mr-barker.weebly.com/les-entiers.html Have a great week! Happy Easter Everyone...just remember when you're racing your family for the next easter egg on the family egg hunt that you keep your 6ft away from each other!
MATH 8: I have send an email out to your email address on file with the link for your Probability test. You must sign in with your school district gedu account to write the the test. Just a reminder that there is no time limit, but it must be written today. The test should take no more than 1.5 hours. There are no re-writes for tests moving forward. Good luck! **** Note to all students that Term 4 starts Tuesday, but all "online school" work except what was assigned prior to spring break will be on the term 4 report card. Joyeuse Paques! Well, we are one week in for our online classes and for some it has gone really well and for others it has been an extra week of vacation apparently. Thanks to all the students who have touched base and have submitted their work for the first week or who have at least made an effort to do so. We have had just over 50% of students turn in their assignments after week 1, so if you're one of the ones who hasn't, please do so as soon as you can. In order to facilitate communication, it would be really beneficial if students sign up for REMIND.COM with the links below as it allows us to text back and forth about assignments at any time rather than emailing or booking a zoom meet up. If you're a Rogers customer, emails will be the only way to communicate using Remind, but any other cell provider should work fine. I am still happy to schedule a Zoom conference as it's great to see your faces. I really miss having you all in class each day. Zoom Conference Appointments, Book Here: www.calendly.com/mrbarker
