Here's the plan for the week....
SCIENCES 9 - I have decided that I'm going to push back your test on Electricity until Wednesday as I feel you need time to look over your labs and work and double check things prior to writing it. Thursday I'll get you to look over a review of grade 8 cells before we get into our Biology section of grade 9 the following week. SCIENCES 8 - I hope that your vision disorder projects are coming along nicely. Just remember that if you've chosen to do a slide presentation that you need to add a voice over so that you can explain things. That doesn't mean just read the slides. Please elaborate on what's on there and give more details. If you've chosen to do an oral presentation, please add a few pictures so that we can get a better appreciation of the illness you're studying. I'll put out some small notes to read over Thursday, but there won't be a quiz on them. They will just prepare you for your test on Chp 6 next week (which you can use your notes and text) ....some of you may have been already thus far ;) MATH 8 - This week we will have a quiz on 10-3 and 10-4 but I wanted to give you more time to practice and figure things out. I would suggest trying the practice test and review section questions from your textbooks as I'll be putting questions similar to these on the quiz. They can be found in your book on pages 400-403. The quiz will be Thursday so that you have a nice day off Friday. The following week we will start our final unit on Area and Volume which are in Chapter 5+7 in the texbook. You'll also be creating a 3D model to demonstrate your understanding of these topics. If you need more practice or want to clarify something, please book a zoom with me at some point this week. Just about a month left of school! Being back in the school has been really different with no students there, but hopefully Ièll be able to help the couple of you that are being asked to come back in June. From the feedback you guys provided I'll try and put up a couple clips tomorrow to introduce the work for this week, so look for those on the classroom tomorrow afternoon if not sooner.
SCIENCES 8 - Hopefully you all enjoyed the virtual dissection. I will be sharing a dissection that I'll do in our classroom this week and hopefully give you a better idea of what you're missing. (Video Tuesday). We will have our quiz on the parts and functions of the eye (section 6-1) Friday. - In the meantime, you are going to be looking into an eye disorder to research. I would suggest asking your family if there are any members of your family that have had vision problems, and what illness caused them. There are a couple listed in your texts, but there are so many more available to research. The way you present this assignment is up to you. You can make a video, a google slide presentation or any other creative form of presenting the material. Please drop me a message in classroom letting me know which illness you will be researching/presenting and then the presentation is due Wednesday of next week. SCIENCES 9 - This week we will be wrapping up the electricity unit and will have our unit test Monday. I'll be posting some questions for you to work on as review for the unit this week in Google Classroom and then I'll have a Zoom session Thursday at 9am for those that would like to review with me and go over the concepts before the test the following Monday. MATH 8 - This week we will have a quiz on sections 10-1 and 10-2 (1 and 2 step algebra equations). I'll be posting the quiz Monday around 10am. There are once again videos and summaries on our math 8 algebra page on this website to help you out with this week's sections of 10-3 and 10-4. Once again, try out the suggested questions for these 2 sections. I'll have another zoom Thursday 11 am for those that would like me to review things with them. Have a great week guys! I hope everyone had a great May long weekend and are all caught up on things. Thanks to those that took the time to fill out the google form this week and I'll be reaching out to those that didn't get a chance to. This week your teachers are headed back into the building to work with our struggling learners and to provide more support for them, but we will continue to support you all online. We will be undergoing extra health and safety training to make sure that things are all safe for when we get you all back in the building at some point. Please note that as we will now be working regular school hours at SKSS, I will be available for support and communication during school hours. Should you need anything, please reach me as usual via remind, zoom, email or by calling the school. I look forward to still helping you in whatever way I can through this bizarre year of learning. i hope you're all finding ways to have fun while still staying safe. i miss teaching you all face to face.
Mr. Barker This week's plans...... SCIENCES 8 - We will be starting our new chapter in our optics unit. Chapter 6 explores the eyeball and how we see. It also looks at different vision disorders and also advances in technology related to vision. It is a shorter chapter, but we will take some time to research a vision disorder of your liking as well as check out a very interesting movie about vision and echolocation. For this week, please take a look at the teacher notes for the parts of the eye (section 6-1) and try the virtual eye dissection activity on Google Classroom - have a look at the worksheet that goes with it for practice. There will be a quiz on the parts and functions of the eye next week including cones, rods and the aqueous and vitreous humor. There is nothing to submit this week, but you are responsible for getting familiar with the material for the quiz. SCIENCES 9 - This week you get to start off by watching an electrical safety video put out years ago by BC Hydro called Electrojuice! Very weird video, but super informative. Make sure to pay attention as I will be asking follow up questions to it later. Wednesday I will be putting up another electricity lab on the classroom for you to try as well as a lab sheet to answer questions on for Ohm's law. There will also be a set of notes for you to look over on resistance. We will have some review next week followed by our unit test on electricity. If you're struggling with the concepts, please reach out for help. MATH 8 - This week you are to tackle the notes and questions from your text on one and two step algebra questions from sections 10-1 and 10-2. There are video tutorials and summary pictures on our math site: http://mr-barker.weebly.com/algegravebre.html - Zoom tutorial Thursday from 10-11am for those that want some extra help or practice. - We will have a quiz Monday next week on these 2 sections. This week is going to be used as a regroup and connect week. There will be no new assignments due or assigned in the hopes that everyone is able to get caught up and on tract moving forward with the last 7 weeks of school that are left. I will put out a little survey on google classroom Tuesday to see how everyone is doing, and if I don't hear back I'll be calling home to check in and see how you're doing. This time is also to be used to work on your CCSA's as they need to be done by the end of the school year. Should you need help with them, please feel free to reach out and ask myself or Mrs. Francis for help.
MATH 8 - Feel free to work ahead if you really want, but no work is assigned. No new work, do your CCSAs SCIENCES 8 - Quiz on Chp 5 Monday (will be available by 11am) / No new work, do your CCSAs SCIENCES 9 - Lab from last week is due Monday / No new work, do your CCSAs **** Also...Friday is a Pro-D day, so please don't do any work for any of your classes and just go enjoy the sun!
And now for the school stuff...
MATH 8 - We are starting algebra this week! Before we can jump into algebraic questions involving multiplying and dividing, we need to be able to solve questions combining "like terms". By that we're talking about combining terms with the same variable(s) (letters in math). I've put a pdf on Google Classroom with 6 worksheets on like terms. I'd like you to pick 3 of the six to submit on the classroom by Wednesday so that I can mark them and get them back to you for a quiz Friday. SCIENCES 9 - This week students will use the virtual lab that they played around with last week to complete a lab activity. I also forgot to post the questions on the classroom last week, so they can complete the worksheet on there as well that goes with the notes on Ohm's law (see classroom). I've posted a summary sheet for series and parallel circuits that should help with completing the lab and the worksheet. The worksheet is due by Wednesday and the lab is due Monday next week as it may take a little time. SCIENCES 8 - This week we are moving on to Chapter 5. Students should complete the online notes and submit them on Google Classroom. The easiest way is to download them and use the fillable pdf's on your computers or devices to complete them and submit. I've put a couple websites up on Google Classroom as well to explore what happens when we play with light using lenses and mirrors. Please take time to explore the differences between reflection and refraction. We will have a quiz on these concepts Monday. |
